The Union Cabinet has approved the Paper Leak Amendment Bill during a meeting held on Friday amid ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar. The proposed legislation introduces stringent legal measures aimed at curbing examination malpractices, paper leaks, and organized cheating networks in public competitive examinations.
Under the amended provisions, severe financial and criminal penalties have been instituted against individuals and organized syndicates found guilty of paper leaks. The bill prescribes a maximum imprisonment of up to 10 years along with a fine of up to ₹10 crore for offenders involved in leaking examination papers.
To ensure swift justice and timely resolution of cases, the amendment mandates the establishment of fast-track courts. Under the legal framework, these designated fast-track courts will be required to conclude trials and deliver decisions within a strict timeframe of three months.
