In a routine election surveillance operation, an FST team seized ₹2,18,000 in cash from a person during naka checking near Swing Bridge in Kolkata early on April 11. The operation was carried out around 5:00 am by a team led by SRO II Mrinmay Mridha, along with personnel from the local police and central armed forces, as part of ongoing checks ahead of the elections.
The individual from whom the cash was recovered has been identified as Neeraj Kumar Gupta, a resident of Garhwa district in Jharkhand. Officials conducted the seizure following standard operating procedures during the checking process. The presence of police personnel and central forces ensured that the operation was carried out smoothly without any disruption.
Following the seizure, the recovered cash was deposited at South Port Police Station under the relevant documentation. Authorities continue to maintain heightened vigilance across the city, with intensified checking operations being conducted at key points to monitor movement and ensure compliance with election guidelines.
