Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A family in Surat had a narrow escape after accidentally immersing ₹2 lakh in cash into a canal along with ritual offerings following a religious ceremony.
The incident involved the Limba family from the Nijanand Society area. After performing a puja, the family placed flowers, offerings and other ritual materials in a bag for immersion in a nearby canal. Unknowingly, bundles of cash worth ₹2 lakh that had been kept safely with the puja materials were also placed in the bag and thrown into the water.
Realising the mistake soon after, the family alerted the local fire department. Personnel from the Surat Fire and Emergency Services, including a team from Dumhal Fire Station, quickly reached the spot and launched a search operation in the canal. Despite strong currents and debris in the water, divers from the fire brigade entered the canal and carefully searched the area. After an intense effort, they successfully recovered four bundles of ₹500 notes and handed them back to the relieved family.
During the operation, two firefighters sustained minor injuries after being cut by glass pieces in the canal. However, the team managed to complete the rescue mission safely. The Limba family expressed deep gratitude to the fire brigade personnel for their efforts in recovering their savings.
