The Border Security Force (BSF) seized ₹21 lakh worth of Bangladeshi Taka, 340 bottles of Phensedyl, and 11 kilograms of ganja during a special operation near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Nadia district. The operation was conducted by jawans of the 161st Battalion early Saturday morning based on specific intelligence inputs. The raid took place near the Gungra border post, where suspicious movement was detected in a banana plantation.
As BSF personnel closed in on the area, the suspected smugglers fled under the cover of darkness and foliage. A search of the plantation led to the recovery of the contraband. The seized Bangladeshi currency, banned cough syrup Phensedyl, and cannabis are suspected to have been part of a cross-border smuggling attempt. The plantation where the items were recovered is located close to the international boundary.
A search operation is still underway in the area, and the BSF has intensified security checks along the border. Officials have stated that a detailed investigation has begun to identify those involved. The recovered items have been documented and secured as per protocol.
