Police recovered fake currency worth ₹30 crore from Room 206 of Hotel Royal, located near the Dhamakhali ferry ghat in Sandeshkhali. The seized notes were primarily in ₹500 denominations, and officials stated that some genuine currency was also found among the fake notes. The hotel falls under the jurisdiction of Sandeshkhali police station.
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the recovery. One of the accused, Debabrata Chakraborty, is a resident of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district. The second accused, Sirajuddin Mollah, hails from the Motordighi area under Jibantala police station. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended use of the counterfeit notes.
According to police sources, Hotel Royal was previously frequented by Sheikh Shahjahan and Shibu Hazra. The hotel is currently operated by Bappaditya Mandal, known to be closely associated with Sheikh Shahjahan. Authorities are examining records and surveillance footage from the premises as part of the ongoing probe.
