• Drugs worth ₹50 crore seized as investigators arrest Sheikh Munir’s wife Reshma Bibi
• Raid conducted in Ekbalpur after intelligence inputs about international drug network
• Investigators probing links of absconding kingpin and wider trafficking network
In a major crackdown ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, officials have arrested Reshma Bibi, the wife of alleged international drug trafficking kingpin Sheikh Munir, following a large-scale narcotics seizure in Kolkata. Investigators said drugs worth nearly ₹50 crore were recovered during the operation, marking one of the significant recoveries in recent months.
The raid was conducted after investigators received specific inputs from intelligence sources about the operation of a drug network allegedly being run from a residence in the Ekbalpur area. Acting on the information, enforcement teams carried out the operation and arrested Reshma Bibi, who is suspected of playing a key role in maintaining the network. According to investigators, Sheikh Munir is believed to be the mastermind of a major international drug trafficking ring with links extending to multiple countries. Reports in the past have also suggested connections with networks operating in the Philippines. Authorities suspect that while Munir remains absconding, his wife was managing the trafficking activities and coordinating the movement of narcotics.
Officials said the arrest could help unravel the wider network involved in the illegal trade. Investigators are now interrogating the accused to identify other members of the syndicate, the supply routes used to distribute the drugs, and possible hideouts where more narcotics may be stored across Kolkata and surrounding areas.
