The West Bengal government has allocated ₹6,600 crore for the first phase of the "Banglar Bari" scheme, aimed at providing financial assistance for housing construction. This phase will benefit 11 lakh individuals across the state, with each eligible beneficiary set to receive a total of ₹1.2 lakh in two installments.
The first installment of ₹60,000 will be credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts starting Tuesday. The remaining ₹60,000 will be released after construction work begins and is verified by authorities. The scheme seeks to ensure that all financial aid reaches the rightful recipients promptly and without any delays.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will ceremonially distribute certificates to a selected group of beneficiaries at Nabanna. Two beneficiaries from each district have been chosen to attend the event. The remaining individuals will receive the funds directly in their registered bank accounts through a centralized system.
The Panchayat Department has prepared a detailed nine-point directive to ensure smooth and transparent implementation of the scheme. These guidelines direct district administrations to allocate funds promptly at the block level and ensure no diversion or misuse. Block Development Officers (BDOs) are tasked with monitoring the process, while designated officials will oversee fund distribution to verified beneficiaries.
All beneficiaries have been assigned unique identification numbers that will be uploaded to a centralized portal. SMS notifications will confirm fund transfers to beneficiaries. This measure aims to eliminate errors, such as incorrect account transfers, and prevent any mismanagement of funds. Final verification of the beneficiary list is in progress and expected to conclude shortly, ensuring that payments begin on schedule.
Under this phase, ₹60,000 will be credited upfront to initiate the construction process, while the second installment of ₹60,000 will be disbursed after progress on construction is confirmed. The government aims to complete the disbursal of the first phase within December, providing timely support for affordable housing construction across the state.
