Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her campaign in Nadia district, questioning his silence over remarks made by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. She said it was unacceptable for a foreign minister to speak about targeting Kolkata and demanded to know why no strong response or action had been taken by the Indian government.

Addressing multiple rallies in areas including Palashipara, Kaliganj, and Nakashipara, Banerjee also raised serious allegations regarding the electoral process. She claimed there was a link between the BJP and the Election Commission, citing instances she described as evidence of coordination. She further alleged that money, drugs, and weapons were being brought into West Bengal from outside states ahead of the elections, asserting that proof would be revealed at an appropriate time. She added, “BJP is bringing CRPF from Uttar Pradesh using Ayodhya. But this is a 25-day game—after that they will understand.”

The Trinamool Congress leader urged voters, particularly women, to exercise their rights without fear. She advised them not to be intimidated and to remain present until the completion of vote counting on May 4. She also spoke about welfare promises, including doorstep healthcare services such as doctor visits, diagnostic tests, and hospital referrals, while assuring that existing schemes like financial assistance programmes would continue.

Banerjee also referred to recent incidents and administrative decisions, including the transfer of a senior police officer, alleging political understanding between rival parties. She criticised actions taken during past incidents and questioned the handling of law and order situations, while reiterating that her party does not support violence but expects fair action against those responsible.

In a lighter moment at the end of one of the rallies, Banerjee was seen dancing to a song written and composed by herself, reflecting her campaign style of blending political messaging with cultural outreach. With multiple rallies scheduled across Nadia and Purba Bardhaman, her campaign continues to focus on mobilising grassroots support amid an increasingly intense political environment.
