'Beer Biceps', 'Rebel kid', Samay Raina booked over ‘obscene’ remarks; 'Beer Biceps' apologizes

A complaint has been filed against social media influencers 'Beer Biceps' or Ranveer Allahbadia, 'The Rebel Kid' or Apoorva Mukhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organisers of India’s Got Latent over alleged obscene remarks made during an episode of the show. The complaint has been submitted to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, accusing them of using "abusive language" and making inappropriate jokes about women. The complainant has demanded strict action, citing concerns over the remarks’ impact on public decency and young viewers.

The complaint alleges that the accused made obscene references to women’s private parts and engaged in inappropriate discussions during the show. It claims that such remarks were made for publicity and financial gain, with no regard for the dignity of women or the potential influence on minors. The complainant has emphasized that the remarks were broadcasted publicly and may have reached a large audience, including young viewers. The complaint also names the show’s organisers, holding them responsible for allowing such content to be aired.

The controversy erupted after a clip from India’s Got Latent went viral, showing Ranveer Allahbadia asking a contestant a "would you rather" question about their parents in a sexual context. The remarks sparked widespread backlash, with political leaders, social media users, and public figures condemning the content. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate called the remarks "perverse" and criticized the normalization of such discussions. Many social media users also criticized the show’s format and the creators involved, accusing them of using shock value for engagement.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the controversy, stating that he was aware of the situation but had not seen the content. He remarked, "Everyone has freedom of speech, but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others." He also said that if societal norms are violated, it is considered "absolutely wrong," and action should be taken as necessary.

Following the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology on social media. "I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry," he posted on X. In a video statement, he further said, "My comment wasn’t just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. I personally had a lapse in judgment. This is not how I wish to use my platform." He emphasized that he did not intend to disrespect family values and acknowledged his responsibility as a content creator with a large audience.

The case is currently under review. No official responses have been issued by Apoorva Mukhija, Samay Raina, or the show’s organisers regarding the allegations. Authorities have not yet provided further updates on legal proceedings or potential action against those named in the complaint.
