“BJP wants to kill Saokat”: Mamata offers own security, warns ‘will not spare anyone’

Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the BJP during a series of rallies, making strong remarks on security, political rivalry, and development. She said, “BJP leaders roam around with 20–30 vehicles accompanied by central forces, while Saokat’s security is being taken away. This is because the BJP’s ‘vanishing washing commission’ will give such orders. Remember, do not play with people’s lives or their safety. Take away my security—I will give it to Saokat if needed. Let’s see what you can do. I don’t need security. I am not afraid of these goons. Even bombs and guns cannot do anything to me. One day we are born, one day we will die. But I will not spare the BJP—I will take them on.”

She further alleged that her close aide Saokat Molla was being targeted, saying, “They want to kill Saokat. They are trying to get his security withdrawn through BJP. If anything happens to him, I will not spare anyone. BJP does not have the courage to fight me directly, so they are targeting Saokat. If I am the left hand, Saokat is my right hand.”

Speaking about development in Canning, Banerjee said, “I deliberately brought Saokat from Canning. He had asked me to create eight police stations and mentioned that a medical college has not been built yet. From a stadium in Canning to whatever you need, we will do everything. But you must promise to make Saokat win. And also ensure victory for our candidate Baharul in Canning East. Around 2 lakh jobs will be created in the leather hub. Everything is being prepared, and many industries will come up here.”

Targeting the BJP in Bhangar, she said, “There are some BJP agents in Bhangar who carry out small bomb attacks. They go to our candidate’s house, check party offices, and then call BJP to get people arrested. I know everything. Do not trust them—they operate with BJP’s money. BJP is communal, and there are also some communal elements in other religions who betray their own community for money.” She also added, “We had stopped land mutation here because poor people’s land was being grabbed. The person who was given responsibility to build a hospital did not do it. Now Islamia Hospital will build a hospital in Bhangar—they have already sent us a proposal, and it will be done. Minorities should know that the most work for them has been done during our tenure. Four crore students have received scholarships.”

Attacking Narendra Modi, she said, “Modi was defeated yesterday, and he will be defeated again in the future. It was not just a women’s bill—they attached delimitation to it. I hear he will address the nation today, but his speeches are nothing but a bundle of lies.” She also urged voters, saying, “Defeat those traitors who are strengthening BJP. In Bhangar, agricultural land was being grabbed earlier and there was no development. We created a leather hub on 1,100 acres, generating 1.5 lakh jobs. Another 2 lakh jobs will be created. If there is a leather hub in the country, it is in Bhangar.”

Banerjee began her day with a rally in Uluberia, followed by meetings in Baruipur and Bhangar. From there, she is scheduled to travel to Sonarpur and later hold a road march in Howrah.
