'Bring Netaji's mortal remains from Japan': Chandra Bose writes to PM

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew, Chandra Kumar Bose, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to repatriate the freedom fighter’s mortal remains from Renkoji Temple in Japan by August 18. Chandra Kumar Bose, a former BJP leader, stressed the importance of this move to end false narratives and theories about Netaji's fate.

In his letter, Chandra Kumar Bose acknowledged the government's efforts to declassify files related to Netaji, asserting that these documents confirm Netaji's death on August 18, 1945. He emphasized the need for a definitive statement from the government to lay to rest any misconceptions about Netaji.

"It is time that the Government of India, under your able leadership, has taken the initiative to declassify Netaji-related files and come to a closure. After the release of all the files (10 Enquiries- National and International), it is evident that Netaji perished on 18 August 1945. It is, therefore, imperative that a final statement is made from the Government of India, so that false narratives about the Liberator of India are laid to rest," Chandra Kumar Bose wrote to PM Modi.

He further appealed for efforts to bring Netaji's remains back to India. "Efforts must be made to bring the mortal remains of an immortal Hero to his home country- India, the land he liberated. My humble appeal to you is to bring back the mortal remains of Netaji from Renkoji to India by 18 August 2024," he added.

Speaking to the media, Chandra Kumar Bose highlighted the insult to Netaji's legacy by having his remains kept at the Renkoji Temple. He has been advocating for their repatriation for the past three-and-a-half years.

"The declassification process has exposed secret files and documents which conclusively establish that Netaji died in this air crash on August 18, 1945. It is highly insulting that Netaji’s remains have been kept at the Renkoji temple in Japan. We have been writing to PM for the last three-and-a-half years, that to honor the liberator of India, his remains must touch Indian soil. It is my humble appeal to him to bring back the mortal remains of Netaji from Renkoji to India by August 18, 2024," he stated.
