The Election Commission has formally informed the West Bengal government to complete the transfer and posting of police personnel connected with election duties by February 15, 2026, in view of the forthcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections.
In a communication issued by the Additional Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, to the Secretary of the Home and Hill Affairs Department, the state was asked to ensure that all election-related police transfers are completed within the stipulated deadline and a compliance report is sent immediately for onward submission to the Election Commission of India.
The letter, issued in continuation of an earlier memo dated January 12, 2026, makes it clear that no police officer associated with election work will be transferred after February 15, as part of measures to ensure a fair and smooth conduct of the Assembly polls.
