A tragic incident unfolded in Rasoidhamna village, Hazaribag district, Jharkhand, where a couple died after the roof of their room collapsed on them while they were sleeping. The unfortunate event occurred late Sunday night when Hadis Ansari (52) and his wife Zamira Khatun (48) were in their room. Other family members, sleeping in separate rooms, remained unharmed.
Barhi Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Johan Tudu confirmed the deaths, stating that the couple died on the spot due to the roof collapse. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to the Barhi Sub Division Hospital. While it was not raining at the exact moment of the collapse, recent heavy showers are believed to have weakened the old structure, leading to the tragedy.
In response to the incident, SDO Tudu announced that authorities have initiated a survey of old and dilapidated houses across the area. This proactive measure aims to identify and address structurally unsound homes, preventing similar incidents in the future and ensuring the safety of residents.
Relief and grants will be provided to the bereaved family as per government rules, and rescue teams are currently engaged in clearing the debris from the collapsed house. The incident has cast a pall over the village, highlighting the vulnerability of old structures, especially during adverse weather conditions.
