BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A shocking case has emerged from Siliguri, where a stepfather has allegedly confessed to the murder of a 10-year-old child in the Bidhannapally area under the Medical Outpost, triggering widespread outrage. The accused, identified as Uttam Barman, was arrested after the child was reported missing, and later admitted to the crime during police interrogation.
The victim’s mother, Savitri Barman, had earlier expressed suspicion against her husband. She alleged that the accused had come home on the pretext of collecting a charger and took the child along with him, after which the minor went missing. Acting on her complaint, police arrested Uttam Barman and initiated a detailed probe into the disappearance.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that he harboured resentment towards the child and had planned the act in advance. On the day of the incident, he allegedly took the child and threw him into the Gazoldoba Canal. Following the confession, the court initially remanded him to judicial custody and later granted police custody for further questioning.
Police teams have since launched a search operation in the canal area to recover the child’s body. The incident has sparked serious concerns over child safety and domestic violence, with the locality gripped by shock and anger as the investigation continues.
