Kolkata Police's cyber team recently unearthed a major cyber crime racket running out of a fake call center in the Hatgacha area of South 24 Parganas. The operation exposed an extensive fraud network involving cyber scams and “digital arrests,” allegedly masterminded by Wadood Ahmed—described by officers as the “uncrowned king” of this underworld operation.
According to investigators, Wadood had been operating the illegal call center for several years, targeting victims across India and abroad under the guise of offering technical support or posing as law enforcement. His arrest last week led to the seizure of critical equipment, documents, and digital evidence linked to high-value frauds.
He was initially remanded to police custody until July 25. Today, when he was produced in court again, all 18 accused, including Wadood, were sent to extended police custody till July 31 for further interrogation and evidence collection.
