West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee issued a stern warning to outgoing Farakka MLA Monirul Islam after he filed a nomination on behalf of the Congress. Addressing a public meeting on Sunday in support of party candidate Noor Alam in Shamsherganj, Banerjee made it clear that any act of indiscipline within the party would not be tolerated.
Speaking at the rally, Mamata Banerjee said she had received information that Monirul Islam had submitted his nomination after not receiving a party ticket. She publicly urged him to withdraw the nomination immediately, stating that contesting against the party line would be treated as an act of defiance. Banerjee also instructed Jangipur organizational district Trinamool Congress president and MP Khalilur Rahman to take strict action if the nomination was not withdrawn. “I am telling the Farakka MLA to withdraw his nomination. If he does not, he should be expelled from the party,” she said, sending a clear message about maintaining party discipline.
Monirul Islam had submitted his nomination at the Jangipur Subdivisional Administrative Office on Saturday after not being given a ticket. Reports indicate that Congress candidate Mahatab Sheikh’s name was deleted from the voter list, prompting Islam to file his nomination in that place. Earlier, he had stated that if the Congress candidate’s name was restored in the voter list, he would contest as an independent candidate for the development of the people of Farakka.
