'Don't drag the court into all this': Delhi HC on plea over police excess during CJP protest

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday declined an oral request for urgent listing of a petition alleging excessive use of force by Delhi Police against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters during Monday's demonstration in the national capital. While responding to the request, Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya remarked, "Don't drag the court into all this." The petition concerns allegations that police used excessive force while preventing protesters from marching towards Parliament.

The matter was mentioned before a Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia. The petition was filed after protesters alleged that Delhi Police used lathi charges and tear gas during the demonstration, resulting in injuries to several participants. The allegations relate to the police action taken during Monday's protest.

According to the information provided, students from different parts of the country and activists of the Cockroach Janta Party had gathered at Jantar Mantar and other locations in central Delhi, demanding accountability for repeated examination paper leaks and seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Police stopped the proposed march to Parliament, following which the petition alleging excessive use of force was filed.
