"Ensuring peace is BJP’s responsibility," Saugata Roy writes to Amit Shah over attacks on TMC workers

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging attacks on party workers and offices in West Bengal following the Assembly election results. In the letter dated June 16, 2026, Roy claimed that more than 2,000 Trinamool Congress offices had been vandalised and party workers assaulted since the declaration of election results on May 4. He also referred to an incident involving a party office in Ward No. 93 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, alleging that the premises were damaged despite a complaint being lodged with the police.

Roy stated that he decided to write to the Union Home Minister after an incident that allegedly took place outside the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. According to the letter, Roy was present there along with several party leaders when Kunal Ghosh briefly stepped outside to speak to the media. Roy alleged that Ghosh later informed those present that eggs had been thrown at him, with some striking his face and shirt. The MP stated that he subsequently raised the matter with officials of Kalighat Police Station, the Deputy Commissioner (South), and the Director General of Security. In the letter, Roy urged Shah to ensure that such incidents do not recur and wrote that maintaining peace in West Bengal is the responsibility of the BJP following its electoral victory in the state.
