West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has confirmed that the state government will comply with the Supreme Court’s verdict on the teachers’ employment issue and will issue the required notification by May 31. Although a review petition has been filed against the decision, the Supreme Court is currently in summer recess, delaying the hearing. Until the review is decided, the earlier ruling must be followed.

Mamata stated that the advertisement for recruitment will be released on May 30. The process for online applications will start on June 16 and continue until July 14. The publication of the selection panel is scheduled for November 15, with counseling set for November 20. She emphasized that teachers currently working can continue their duties until December, as permitted by the Supreme Court.

The state government has identified 44,203 vacant teaching positions and plans to fill these posts. Mamata also mentioned that age relaxation will be given to candidates whose eligibility is affected by the current limits. Experience certificates will be provided to those teachers who have worked so far in the government schools.

To address the situation of teachers who may lose their jobs due to the Supreme Court ruling, the government intends to offer alternative employment opportunities in two to three other departments. Mamata noted that the loss of jobs is a result of the court’s decision and not the state government’s choice. She assured that the government will work to provide humanitarian relief by reassigning affected teachers.

Mamata also committed that the state government will actively pursue the review petition to challenge the Supreme Court decision. She pointed out that in other states like Tripura and Uttar Pradesh, teachers who lost jobs have not been rehired, but West Bengal will take steps to avoid such outcomes. The government is bound to complete the notification process by May 31 in compliance with the court’s order.
