Political developments in Bihar took a new turn on Sunday as a group of women staged a Satyagraha at Gandhi Maidan in Patna demanding that Nishant Kumar be made Chief Minister if Nitish Kumar steps down from office. The demonstration was organised by members of the Sudhar Vahini organisation, who gathered beneath the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and voiced their support for the Bihar Chief Minister’s son.
The women protesters said they were deeply concerned by ongoing speculation about Nitish Kumar possibly relinquishing his position. Sitting in peaceful protest, they argued that if such a situation arises, the responsibility of leading the state government should be entrusted to Nishant Kumar. According to them, it would be difficult for people, particularly women, to place their trust in any other political leader. The National President of Sudhar Vahini said the women of the organisation felt strongly about the issue and wanted continuity in leadership. She stated that Nishant Kumar represents simplicity and discipline and is capable of carrying forward the governance approach and development model associated with his father. She also claimed that under his leadership the confidence of the public would remain intact.
Another participant in the Satyagraha said many women across the state do not want Nitish Kumar to step down. According to the protesters, the initiatives undertaken during his tenure significantly strengthened women’s empowerment in Bihar. They argued that these efforts have had a major impact and should continue under leadership that follows the same path.
