‘Have I done something wrong?’ Raghav Chadha breaks silence after AAP removes him from Rajya Sabha post

Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha on Friday broke his silence after being removed as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, questioning the decision and asking whether raising public issues in Parliament had become a “crime”. In a video message, Chadha expressed surprise at the move and said he was being prevented from speaking despite consistently highlighting concerns of ordinary citizens.

“Have I done something wrong? Is it a crime or a mistake to raise the public’s issues?” Chadha asked, adding that the party had communicated to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to stop his participation in debates. He maintained that his interventions in Parliament were always focused on issues affecting the common man, including high food prices at airports, challenges faced by gig workers, mobile recharge policies and the financial burden on the middle class.

Chadha further questioned why anyone would want to silence a voice that speaks on public concerns. In a pointed remark, he said, “Why would anyone want to silence me?” while also thanking people for their continued support. He asserted that his silence should not be interpreted as weakness, stating, “Don’t mistake my silence for my defeat.”

The development comes a day after the party replaced Chadha with MP Ashok Mittal as its deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. The move has triggered speculation about possible internal differences within the party, although AAP leaders have maintained that the decision is part of organisational restructuring.

Chadha’s recent political stance and absence during certain key moments in the party’s recent past have also drawn attention, with observers linking these factors to the leadership change. However, the party has dismissed claims that he has been deliberately sidelined, even as the episode continues to fuel political debate.
