Lionel Messi's much-awaited return to Kolkata after 14 years started with huge excitement but quickly turned into disappointment for more than thousands of fans yesterday at Saltlake Stadium. The Argentine football legend arrived at the Salt Lake Stadium around 11:35 AM for kickstarting his GOAT Tour event, greeted by loud cheers. Dressed in a simple black t-shirt and trousers, Messi looked happy at first while meeting the players. This led to a big security lapse, and Messi was rushed out after staying only about 23 minutes.
As per reports, Messi seemed confused and asked his team, "Since I came inside, I am only walking this side and that side. What is happening?". Instead, the poor planning caused frustration, with fans throwing objects and damaging seats. While Lionel Messi, Suarez and De Paul sat in the car, members of Team Messi were firm in their decision to not continue with the event. Event organiser Satadru Dutta, sports minister Aroop Biswas and West Bengal police DGP Rajeev Kumar were seen trying to convince Team Messi, but it doesn't led to fruitful results.

The crowd was very overwhelming and the players had barely any room to walk. Messi completed only a half-lap in the stadium before being quickly escorted out through a side door or tunnel. Soon after that, chaos broke out in the stands. This sudden exit disappointed the eager crowd, fans started booing loudly, expressing anger over poor management and the brief glimpse of Messi. Raging fans further uprooted stadium seats, plastic water bottles and packages were thrown onto the field and toward police and officials. The spectators went on a rampage on the field.
