Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has triggered fresh political speculation in West Bengal with remarks made ahead of Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) Martyrs’ Day rally on July 21. During a conversation with reporters on Sunday at his residence in Kharagpur, Ghosh said, “Dilip Ghosh doesn’t change flowers, he makes them bloom. On July 21, the entire Bengal will shine anew,” when asked if he was planning a political shift. The comment was made while he was gardening at his bungalow in the Garden area of Kharagpur.

The statement led to heightened speculation in Kharagpur, Paschim Medinipur, and Jhargram districts. There is ongoing buzz around Ghosh’s possible presence at the TMC’s annual July 21 event in Kolkata, a platform where political figures have previously announced major decisions. Parallel discussions have emerged about Ghosh potentially forming a new party or announcing his intention to contest the 2026 Assembly elections as an independent candidate.

On Monday, while on his routine morning walk at Eco Park in New Town, Ghosh was again questioned by reporters about his political plans. He said, “You’ll see me on some platform or the other. Let July 21 come. Politics thrives on speculation. Let’s see what happens. What the public wants to know is what really matters. Many survive on speculation in politics. I don’t have water or a pond—but I do have politics.” He further added, “After July 21, there will be no more questions—everything will be answered.”

Meanwhile, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has commented on Ghosh’s position within the party, stating, “The party will use him wherever necessary. He was, is, and will remain with the party. He’s not going anywhere.” Ghosh previously served as BJP Bengal’s state president and is known for his outspoken public statements. His remarks come at a time when the BJP is undergoing organisational changes in the state, including efforts to restore roles of senior leaders.
