A day after the assassination attempt on him, former United States President Donald Trump, reflecting on the incident, said that he was “supposed to be dead.” Calling it a “surreal experience,” the 78-year-old leader said that he felt that he had been saved “by luck or by God.”
While on his way to deliver an address at Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, Trump said, "I’m not supposed to be here; I’m supposed to be dead.” “The most incredible thing was that I happened to not only turn [my head] but to turn at the exact right time and in just the right amount," he stated, adding that the bullet could have easily killed him.
A spectator who attended the rally was killed, while two others were critically wounded. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Pennsylvania as the "subject involved" in what it termed an attempted assassination.
