'I promise to feed Bardhaman’s Sitabhog to Modi ji and celebrate on May 4': Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp political attack during a rally in Jamalpur ahead of the second phase of polling, making a series of strong remarks against the ruling dispensation. Addressing supporters, he said, “Form a BJP government on the 5th, and on the 6th we will throw the entire syndicate system into the Bay of Bengal.” He alleged widespread extortion, stating, “Tell me, has any work been done in Jamalpur? Has even a single underpass been built at railway crossings? Goons are collecting toll tax. Toll is being collected on bricks, sand, and cement. These are not toll taxes, this is ‘nephew tax’.”

Continuing his address, Shah accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to mislead specific communities. He said, “Didi is scaring the Matua community, saying if BJP comes, your votes will be taken away.” He added, “But Didi, this Matua community is our lifeline. No one will be able to touch them. People of the Matua and Namasudra communities have nothing to fear. Didi is not allowing CAA to be implemented. Form a BJP government, and after the 5th, BJP will grant citizenship to all brothers and sisters of the Matua community.”

The Union Home Minister also issued a stern warning regarding alleged political violence. He said, “Every time during elections, Didi’s goons create trouble. I am telling them—on the 29th, I should not see them outside their homes. If they come out, after the 5th they will be hung upside down.” He further added, “Didi is getting angry with me. Amit bhai, as Home Minister, is scolding the goons. Tell me, should goons be loved? Or should they be scolded? Right now I am only warning them—reform yourselves, otherwise your place will be inside jail.”

Shah also targeted the state government on issues of women’s safety. He said, “In 20 states ruled by BJP, no Chief Minister has ever said that women should not step out after 7 PM. Shame on you, Didi—you could not ensure women’s safety.” He added, “In 15 years of Mamata Didi’s rule, there has been the highest level of violence against women. From RG Kar to Sandeshkhali, everywhere women have been oppressed. Yet Didi says women should not step out after 7 PM. But I am saying, if BJP forms the government, women will be able to go out even at midnight.”

Earlier in the rally, Shah expressed confidence in his party’s electoral prospects, stating, “In the first phase, BJP will win 110 seats and finish Didi’s game. The Jamalpur seat must be won.” He added, “I promise, on May 4 I will feed Bardhaman’s Sitabhog to Modi ji and celebrate.” The rally was part of his campaign schedule for the second phase, with another public meeting planned later in Shyampur, as political campaigning intensifies ahead of the April 29 polling.
