Amid the political transition in West Bengal following the formation of the BJP government under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, All India Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday issued a strong message assuring protection and support to party workers across the state. Through a social media statement, he said the party would stand firmly beside workers facing political attacks and difficulties after the change in government.
Abhishek Banerjee’s statement came amid allegations from the Trinamool Congress that party workers were being targeted in several districts after the BJP assumed power in the state. He claimed that incidents of violence and attempts to take control of Trinamool party offices were being reported from different areas. He also alleged that several party supporters were living in fear and some had been forced to leave their homes following the political transition.
Attempting to boost the morale of party workers, Abhishek Banerjee said that anyone facing attacks or intimidation should contact him directly. He stated, “Anyone who has been attacked or is facing trouble should inform me directly. I will stand by you with my full strength.” He also indicated that he could personally visit affected areas in the coming days.
Abhishek Banerjee also questioned the integrity of the electoral and counting process. Repeating allegations of irregularities during vote counting, he demanded that CCTV footage from counting centres, particularly recordings between noon and 6 PM on the day of the results, should be made public. He said that if the Election Commission could prove the process was fair, he would accept the public mandate.
The Trinamool Congress leader further stated that the party would continue its political and legal fight against the BJP under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. He announced an “all-out struggle” against the BJP from Delhi to Kolkata and said the party would function as an aggressive opposition despite losing power in the state. His statement came amid internal discussions within the Trinamool Congress regarding leadership and organisational strategy following the party’s electoral defeat.
