Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has strongly defended his country’s nuclear weapons programme, stating that recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran validate his long-standing position that nuclear capability is essential for national security. Speaking during a parliamentary address, Kim argued that current global conflicts demonstrate how only nations with strong military power can safeguard their sovereignty and deter external threats.
In his speech, Kim asserted that the decision to retain and expand nuclear weapons was one of the most strategic moves made by North Korea, especially after diplomatic talks with Donald Trump collapsed in 2019. He emphasized that the outcome of global conflicts depends on the balance of power, adding that countries without strong deterrence remain vulnerable to external intervention.
Reiterating a hardline stance, Kim announced plans to further strengthen North Korea’s nuclear arsenal and missile capabilities. He stressed the importance of developing more advanced delivery systems capable of carrying nuclear warheads, while also highlighting the need for a self-reliant economy that can support sustained military expansion alongside economic development.
Kim also issued a stern warning toward South Korea, describing it as the country’s primary adversary and stating that any hostile action would be met with strict consequences. At the same time, he signalled that dialogue with the United States remains conditional, insisting that any future negotiations must begin with formal recognition of North Korea as a nuclear state.
The remarks come amid continued tensions following the breakdown of denuclearisation talks in 2019, which had begun with high-level summits but failed to produce a lasting agreement. Since then, North Korea has resumed missile testing and expanded its capabilities, with estimates suggesting it possesses a significant arsenal of ballistic missiles, including intercontinental systems capable of reaching the United States.
