BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday predicted a BJP victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, linking it to the high voter turnout witnessed during polling. Addressing a rally in Nadia’s Krishnanagar amid the first phase of voting, he said that historically, higher turnout has translated into strong wins for the BJP.
Taking a swipe at the ruling Trinamool Congress, Modi used a cultural reference, saying BJP supporters would celebrate with sweets and “jhal muri” on May 4. He remarked that while he enjoyed the snack, “jhal TMC ko lagi hai,” suggesting that rising voter enthusiasm is hurting the opposition politically.
The Prime Minister also noted that the elections have seen relatively low levels of violence so far and praised the Election Commission for its role. He urged voters to participate in large numbers, asserting that people across sections are voting for change and fear-free governance in the state.
