BJP councilor Meena Devi Purohit criticized the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) budget, calling it another deficit-laden plan with no new developments. She pointed out that heavy waterlogging in Kolkata after just 30 minutes of rain exposed the city's poor drainage system. Purohit alleged that despite yearly promises, the civic body fails to address recurring infrastructure issues. “Every year, a deficit budget is presented, and this year is no different,” she said, adding that Mayor Firhad Hakim did not even read the full budget speech.
Purohit also targeted MIC Tarak Singh, accusing him and the Mayor of making exaggerated claims during the budget presentation. She stated that the budget lacks practical solutions to Kolkata’s urban problems. With persistent waterlogging and no significant improvements, she demanded greater accountability from KMC. The BJP leader questioned the effectiveness of the civic administration, emphasizing the need for real action rather than repeated assurances.
