'Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee's Z+ security maintained, extra deployment removed': Bengal DGP

West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) on Wednesday clarified that the security arrangements for Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, MP Abhishek Banerjee, remain intact, with no withdrawal of their Z+ category security. The DGP stated that extra force deployment beyond the prescribed Z+ category level, as outlined in the Yellow Book, has been withdrawn and reallocated to law-and-order duties across the state. He emphasized that the mandated force for Z+ protectees continues to be deployed as per protocol.

The DGP further explained that the Yellow Book clearly specifies the level of force deployment required for Z+ category security. “We are deploying the force according to the prescription given in the Yellow Book for Z+ category protectees,” he said. He added that while some additional personnel assigned over and above the Z+ standard were withdrawn, this does not affect the official security coverage of the two leaders.

Summarizing the clarification, the DGP reiterated that the Z+ category security for Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee is fully maintained as per official guidelines, and the withdrawal applies only to supplementary personnel. He stated that the reallocated forces are being used to strengthen law-and-order operations, ensuring that the security protocol remains fully compliant with established norms.
