Self-styled Christian pastor Bajinder Singh, popularly known as ‘Yeshu Yeshu Prophet’, has been convicted in a 2018 rape case, a Punjab court ruled on Friday. Singh, who runs churches in Jalandhar and Mohali, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman from Zirakpur after luring her under the pretext of helping her travel abroad. The quantum of his sentence will be announced on April 1.
Singh was arrested in 2018, following a complaint from the victim, and has been embroiled in multiple controversies over the years. The court, however, acquitted six other individuals accused in the case. Singh, who has a large social media following, has frequently been at the center of legal and financial scandals.
Apart from the 2018 rape case, the pastor has been accused of sexual harassment, assault, and financial fraud. In February 2025, a 22-year-old woman lodged a complaint against him, alleging that he had been harassing her since 2017 when she began attending his church. She claimed he sent her inappropriate messages, forcibly touched her, and even threatened to kill her family if she reported his behavior.
Singh has also faced financial fraud allegations. In 2022, he was accused of taking money from a Delhi family in exchange for healing their sick daughter, but the girl did not survive. The case sparked public outrage and raised concerns over his controversial faith-healing practices. A year later, in 2023, the Income Tax Department raided his premises, investigating allegations of financial mismanagement and tax evasion.
His recent violent behavior has also drawn attention. A viral video surfaced online showing Singh assaulting a man and a woman in his office. In the footage, he was seen slapping the man multiple times and throwing objects at the woman before attacking her. The video led to further public backlash and calls for stricter action against him.
Born into a Jat family in Haryana, Singh claims to have converted to Christianity over a decade ago. Despite his legal troubles, he continues to command a significant following, particularly through his social media presence. However, with multiple criminal cases against him, his future as a religious leader remains uncertain.
