Social activist civilian shot dead by suspected terrorists amid high alert in Kashmir
MS Dhoni has found himself at the center of social media backlash after refusing to comment on India's recent Champions Trophy victory. The former India captain, who was in Dehradun to attend the wedding of Rishabh Pant’s sister, was approached by reporters at the airport with a question about the team’s triumph. However, Dhoni simply waved off the query and walked away without answering, a move that did not sit well with some fans.
Many cricket enthusiasts on social media interpreted Dhoni’s silence as a sign of insecurity and jealousy towards current skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit led India to its first Champions Trophy win in 12 years, becoming only the second Indian captain after Dhoni to win multiple ICC trophies. Last year, he had also guided India to an undefeated T20 World Cup victory. Some fans accused Dhoni of not acknowledging Rohit's achievement, reigniting debates about the two captains' legacies.
Notably, Dhoni was not the only one who refrained from commenting on India’s win. Head coach Gautam Gambhir also avoided the topic and walked away when questioned at the airport. However, Dhoni's silence garnered the most attention, given his historic record as the only captain to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies—T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011), and Champions Trophy (2013).
Rohit Sharma’s recent record as captain has been extraordinary. Under his leadership, India has won 23 out of their last 24 ICC tournament matches, with the only loss coming in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. Unlike Dhoni, Rohit has led India to two ICC trophies without losing a single match—an achievement that has only strengthened his reputation as a modern-day great.
Meanwhile, Dhoni appeared to be in a relaxed mood at the wedding celebrations. Videos from the event showed him dancing enthusiastically with Suresh Raina and Rishabh Pant to the iconic Bollywood song "Dama Dam Mast Kalandar." Another viral clip featured Punjabi singer Harrdy Sandhu performing, with Dhoni visibly enjoying the show. His wife, Sakshi Dhoni, also shared pictures from the pre-wedding festivities on social media.
While Dhoni has remained silent on the controversy, the debate over his refusal to acknowledge India’s win continues to trend online. Whether his silence was a simple preference to avoid the media or a deeper rivalry with Rohit Sharma remains a topic of heated discussion among cricket fans.
