"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, former West Bengal BJP president and Balurghat MP, stated that illegal immigrants will not be allowed to vote in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. On Saturday, he posted on X, questioning, “Are Md. Abdur Razzak, a Bangladesh government national ID holder, and Razzak, a voter at booth number 101 in Kumargram Assembly, South Dinajpur, the same person?” He emphasized that identifying such cases is necessary to maintain a transparent voter list and ensure national security.
Majumdar said that these issues highlight why the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are opposing the SIR (Structured Identification of Residents) process. He described the opposition as an obstacle to proper verification of voters. “No matter how much Mamata Banerjee opposes, the Election Commission will ensure that no illegal immigrant can vote in the 2026 assembly elections,” he wrote.
The BJP leader further stressed that national security and the safety of legitimate citizens must be maintained under all circumstances. He directly challenged Mamata Banerjee, saying, “If Mamata Banerjee has the courage, she should try to stop it.” His statements indicate a focus on voter verification and the identification of external voters ahead of the 2026 elections.
