A woman was arrested by Bhatpara police after allegedly flaunting an illegal firearm on social media, triggering swift police action. The arrest followed a Facebook post in which the woman was seen holding a pistol, raising concerns about unlawful possession of weapons.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Riya Singh Karmakar, had recently uploaded a photograph on her Facebook account showing her with a firearm. The image gained traction on social media and soon caught the attention of law enforcement. Police carried out a technical investigation to verify the identity of the woman and traced her location.
Based on the findings, a police team from Bhatpara police station conducted a sudden raid at her residence in the Narayanpur Sheetaltala area. During the search, officers recovered a country-made one-shutter pistol and one live cartridge. The woman was arrested on the spot, and the illegal weapon was seized.
