Jan Suraaj Founder Prashant Kishor on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar, asserting that the trip was not for the state's development but solely aimed at securing votes for the BJP-led NDA alliance ahead of the upcoming state elections. This marks Modi's third visit to Bihar in two months.
Speaking to reporters, Kishor reiterated his long-standing criticism, stating, "PM Modi is not coming for the welfare and development of Bihar but to seek votes for the BJP and NDA." He challenged the Prime Minister's claims regarding new development projects, pointing out that some initiatives, like the locomotive factory in Marhowrah, are already functional and not genuinely new. Kishor further accused the Prime Minister of ignoring critical issues affecting Biharis, such as closed sugar mills and the pervasive problem of large-scale migration for work.
Kishor emphasized that Bihari residents have grown disillusioned by years of unfulfilled promises. "For the last 10-12 years, people have seen that announcements are made but nothing happens," he stated, questioning the Centre's commitment to creating local opportunities. He specifically pressed the Prime Minister to address when the migration of Bihar's youth for labor in other states, like Gujarat, would cease, highlighting that both the state and the Centre are governed by the NDA.
He also alleged that these government visits are a "set pattern" where the NDA-BJP government uses taxpayer money for political campaigning, citing similar instances in Madhubani. With Bihar elections expected later this year, likely in October or November, Kishor's strong remarks underscore the heightened political climate in the state.
