Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Justice B Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential candidate and former Supreme Court judge, praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday for his activism and influence in shaping public discourse.
Speaking to reporters after his nomination was announced, Reddy said Gandhi has consistently ensured that “the streets are never silent,” quoting Rammanohar Lohia’s line, “jab sadak khaamosh hai, sadan awara hoti hai.” He credited Gandhi for persuading the Telangana government to conduct a systematic caste census, calling it a significant intervention in social justice.
Reddy also voiced deep concern about the ongoing crisis in Bihar, stressing that the principle of universal adult suffrage—the “only weapon in the hands of the common man”—is under serious threat. He warned that any attempt to curtail this right would be the gravest danger to India’s democratic framework and its Constitution.
Highlighting his role in leading the Telangana caste census exercise, Reddy noted that its findings would present a major challenge to the ruling dispensation. He expressed hope that the process would be carried out in a systematic and genuine manner, rather than for appearances.
