“Rahul Gandhi is not God, show your passport, I am ready to show mine”: Himanta attacks Congress

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched a sharp political attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi amid the ongoing controversy surrounding party spokesperson Pawan Khera. The remarks came after the Supreme Court stayed a one-week transit bail earlier granted to Khera in connection with a legal case, further intensifying the political confrontation.

Speaking in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Sarma said that in his view, the Telangana High Court should not have granted transit bail to Pawan Khera as he is not a resident of Telangana. He added that the matter should be left to the legal process and that “the law will take its own course,” while defending the ongoing investigation and court proceedings.

Escalating his attack, Sarma directly targeted Rahul Gandhi and said that he is “not God.” He further stated that if Rahul Gandhi questions others, he must also be prepared to answer questions himself. Sarma also demanded that Rahul Gandhi disclose his passport details and international travel history in front of the public.

The political controversy stems from allegations made by Pawan Khera against Sarma’s wife regarding multiple passports and foreign properties, which led to an FIR and subsequent police action. The Assam Chief Minister and his family have strongly denied these allegations, while the dispute has now expanded into a wider political confrontation between the BJP and Congress at the national level.
