No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday called for unity and communal harmony while addressing the Eid gathering at Red Road in Kolkata. The Trinamool Congress leader said attempts were being made to divide people, but Bengal’s long-standing tradition of harmony among communities would remain intact.
Speaking at the event attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said, “Brothers are being pitted against brothers. In such a situation, we have to remain united.” Emphasising the shared cultural fabric of the state, Banerjee added that festivals across religions reflect the same spirit of faith and coexistence. Highlighting the cultural interconnections between communities, he said, “While there is Ram on Diwali, there is Rahim on Eid. The fast of Karba Chauth is broken only after seeing the moon on which Eid is celebrated. The harmony of Bengal will remain unbroken.” His remarks underscored the Trinamool Congress’ message of communal unity amid the ongoing political climate.
Following the programme at Red Road, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee also visited the Red Mosque in Kolkata, where they greeted members of the Muslim community and exchanged Eid greetings with worshippers.
