A fresh political confrontation erupted on Saturday after Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee faced protests while travelling to meet the family of deceased party worker Sanju Karmakar in Sonarpur. According to the party, eggs, shoes and mud were thrown at Abhishek during the incident, damaging his shirt, glasses and watch.
The Trinamool Congress alleged that BJP-backed miscreants were behind the attack and claimed that Abhishek Banerjee chose to continue his visit despite the protest. In a statement, the party said its leader stood by the grieving family and did not abandon them despite the alleged attack.
Reacting strongly to the incident, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the BJP through a social media post. Referring to the protest against Abhishek, she wrote, “The ruling party itself has become the killer! The BJP should be ashamed!” The remarks have further intensified the political war of words between the two parties.
