A bizarre and dramatic scene unfolded at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the Islamnagar area of Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district on Thursday. A local man, identified as Har Prasad Maurya, climbed atop a 30-foot-high water tank, threatening to end his life. However, the reason behind his extreme step left onlookers and authorities completely baffled—he was demanding a second wife.
Standing dangerously close to the edge, Har Prasad began shouting his grievances to the gathering crowd below. He complained that he had been wearing the same dirty clothes for ten days because he had no one to wash them. He claimed his first wife had already left him and insisted that since "everyone else has a wife," he deserved one too. He vowed not to climb down until the administration promised to arrange his marriage.
The commotion caught the attention of Dr. Kusum Jain at the PHC, who immediately alerted the local police. For nearly thirty minutes, the area remained in a state of high tension as the man continued his emotional outburst. The local police outpost team arrived swiftly and began a delicate process of counseling and persuasion, trying to calm him down while ensuring he didn't accidentally slip.
After a tense standoff, officers eventually managed to convince Har Prasad to come down safely. Once on the ground, he was taken for a medical examination in the presence of his family members. Authorities later handed him over to his relatives, advising them to seek psychological support for him. The incident, which started with panic, ended with a mix of relief and amusement among the villagers.
