‘Stop withholding Bengal’s rights’: TMC MPs stage protest outside Parliament over ₹2 lakh crore dues

Trinamool Congress MPs staged a strong protest outside Parliament on Monday, demanding immediate release of West Bengal’s pending dues amounting to ₹2 lakh crore. Holding large banners and shouting slogans, the MPs accused the central government of deliberately depriving the state of its rightful funds.

According to the protesting MPs, several welfare schemes have been impacted due to the alleged withholding of funds, including MNREGA, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, rural road projects, and multiple social welfare programmes. They claimed that the state was being financially “punished” for political reasons.

TMC MPs gathered at the Parliament gates and raised slogans such as “Release Bengal’s dues immediately,” “Stop the injustice to the Constitution,” and “Don’t withhold the state’s rights.” The protest continued for hours, drawing attention to what the party called a constitutional and federal violation.

Several MPs said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had repeatedly written to the central government and visited Delhi multiple times to demand the pending dues, but no positive response had been received. The party alleged that the Centre’s silence was intentional and harmful to the people of West Bengal.

Warning of a wider agitation, the MPs said the protest would intensify both inside Parliament and on the streets if the dues were not cleared without delay. They called the issue a fight to protect federal rights and ensure welfare schemes in the state do not collapse due to lack of funds.
