“There should be no compromise on Mamata Banerjee’s security”: CM Suvendu Adhikari

Suvendu Adhikari has directed the administration to ensure that the security cover of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remains unchanged following the transition of power in West Bengal. During a high-level security meeting at Nabanna after assuming office, the Chief Minister instructed officials that there should be no lapse in security arrangements for Mamata Banerjee and no compromise regarding her official dignity and status as a three-time Chief Minister.

During the meeting, Suvendu Adhikari stated that Mamata Banerjee’s existing security cover should continue without any reduction. He instructed the administration and the Kolkata Police to ensure that prescribed security protocols remain in place around her residence and movements. He also stated that incidents of unrest or disorder outside her residence should not occur under any circumstances.

At the same time, administrative sources indicated that the government had reviewed the security arrangements of several political leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee. According to officials, additional security facilities and personnel assigned to Abhishek Banerjee were being reduced following a formal security assessment. Sources also stated that certain extra barricades and security deployments outside residences and offices had been withdrawn.

Officials maintained that Mamata Banerjee would continue to receive the level of protection mandated under official protocol for a former Chief Minister. The Chief Minister reportedly instructed the Commissioner of Kolkata Police to ensure that there was no relaxation in her security arrangements while administrative reviews of VVIP security continued under the new government.
