Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Opposition on Friday after inaugurating an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Assam’s Guwahati, saying they are just credit hungry.
“Whenever I talk about the development of the country that has been done in the last 9 years, some people get disturbed because they are not getting the credit for growth. The previous government was hungry for credit,” PM Modi said while addressing a gathering.
The Prime Minister also extended his wishes to the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu. “On this auspicious occasion, the health infrastructure of North-East and Assam has got new strength. Today, North-East got its first AIIMS and Assam has got 3 new medical colleges,” he added.
AIIMS Guwahati, a state-of-the-art Hospital, built at cost of more than Rs 1,120 crores has a capacity of 750 beds, including 30 AYUSH beds. The hospital, which will provide world-class health facilities to the people of the Northeast, has an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students every year. The foundation stone of the AIIMS was laid by PM Modi in May 2017.
The Prime Minister also virtually inaugurated three medical colleges in Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar. All three medical colleges have an attached 500 bedded teaching hospitals with OPD/ IPD services including emergency services, ICU facilities, OT and diagnostic facilities etc. They also have an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students. The Nalbari Medical College, Nagaon Medical College and Kokrajhar Medical College were built at the cost of about Rs 615 crore, Rs 600 crore and Rs 535 crore, respectively.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute (AAHII). On the occasion, he distributed Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards to eligible beneficiaries and marked the launch of ‘Aapke Dwar Ayushman’ campaign.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will witness Bihu programme in Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium.
