"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday alleged that the Trinamool Congress is attempting to stall the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. Speaking to journalists in New Town, he claimed that the state government and the ruling party are making efforts to prevent the revision process from progressing smoothly ahead of the publication of the final electoral roll on February 28.
Ghosh said that government employees are responsible for carrying forward the SIR exercise and questioned how the process could be completed without administrative cooperation. “All those who are carrying forward the SIR are government employees. If they do not receive cooperation, how will the process be completed? On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is approaching the court to protect herself,” he said.
Alleging that the Trinamool Congress does not want a transparent and fair revision of the voter list, Ghosh maintained that the party was uneasy about the ongoing scrutiny under the SIR process. His remarks come amid heightened political exchanges over the revision of electoral rolls in the state.
The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal. Following a meeting at Nirvachan Sadan in Delhi, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal released a fresh notification stating that the SIR process will be completed within the stipulated deadline, with the final publication of the electoral roll set for February 28.
