Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A suicide allegedly linked to fear surrounding the ‘SIR’ (Special Information Report) has been reported from the Chunabhati area, a locality within the Dabgram–Phulbari Assembly constituency in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Khadem. His family claims prolonged mental distress due to complications over his name in the voter list and anxiety related to scrutiny.
According to family members, Khadem went missing on Mondayday evening. After an overnight search, his body was found hanging early Tuesday morning at a location close to his residence. The incident has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood, with relatives stating that he had been under visible stress for several weeks.
Khadem’s son, Mohammad Shahid, alleged that his father’s anxiety intensified after an SIR hearing, as his name did not appear in the 2002 electoral roll. While other family members are listed as voters and the family possesses old documents proving long-term residence in the area, Shahid said the fear surrounding the process deeply affected his father’s mental health.
