Following the devastating terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people, the United States has strongly reiterated its support to India in its ongoing fight against terrorism. US House Speaker Mike Johnson, during a Congressional briefing, described India as a “very important partner” and assured that the US would do everything it could to support India's counter-terror efforts.
Johnson emphasized that the bilateral relationship between India and the US is not only strategic but also critical for global stability. He said the Trump administration clearly understands the seriousness of the threat posed by terrorism and will invest more energy, resources, and cooperation if the situation escalates.
In a series of high-level responses, US President Donald Trump also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering condolences and condemning the “heinous” terror attack. Trump expressed full support to India in bringing the perpetrators to justice, reinforcing the message of solidarity.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this stance during a conversation with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He expressed sorrow over the attack and reiterated America’s commitment to working closely with India on counterterrorism. He also urged both India and Pakistan to maintain peace in the region and de-escalate tensions.
As India mourns the loss of innocent lives, Washington’s political leadership has sent a clear signal of alliance and strategic cooperation, standing shoulder to shoulder with India in the face of cross-border terrorism.
