“Why hasn’t PoK been taken back?”: Mamata slams Centre over Pahalgam attack

A fierce political storm erupted in the West Bengal Assembly as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Centre and the BJP over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Calling the killings "brutal and painful", she said terrorism sees no religion and condemned the loss of innocent lives. In a rare moment of unity, Mamata extended her gratitude to the Indian armed forces but sharply criticized the Modi government for “completely failing” to prevent such attacks.

The chief minister raised pointed questions about why the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack had not yet been caught and why Pakistan-occupied Kashmir had not been reclaimed. “If the Centre is so powerful, why is PoK still under Pakistan's control?” she asked. She accused central agencies of being ineffective and claimed that the Opposition has done more in response than the government itself.

The session witnessed chaos as BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and Agnimitra Paul, clashed with Mamata. In a heated exchange, Mamata told Paul to stick to fashion and traditions, asserting that she knows enough to question her political relevance. When Suvendu objected to her remarks about Gujarat and Pakistan, Mamata hit back, calling him a habitual liar and accused him of misleading the House.

Chants of “Modi Modi” echoed inside the Assembly amid the uproar, but Mamata remained unfazed. She declared the BJP a party of “executioners and godi media” and questioned why the Prime Minister had not visited the site of the attack. She demanded a stronger, more accountable central government and a revamp of the national security response system.
