A fresh security scare hit the Delhi Assembly on Monday after two identical threat emails warned of blowing up the premises within three hours using “15 cyanide gas-filled RDX bombs”. The emails were sent to the official ID of the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat and to Speaker Vijender Gupta, days after a recent security breach raised concerns.
The messages, written in Hindi, linked the threat to political developments in Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The sender alleged that S V Shekhar had been sent to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as a “BJP Brahmin agent”, and cited this as the reason for targeting the Assembly.
The email also carried controversial statements regarding participation in the DMK and included divisive instructions about staff evacuation, further raising alarm among authorities. Both emails carried identical content and subject lines, warning of imminent blasts.
The threat comes shortly after a major breach in which a car entered the Assembly premises, intensifying concerns over security. Authorities are expected to investigate the origin of the emails and assess the credibility of the threat.
