'Will go to Tripura myself, let's see...': Mamata fumes over obstruction of TMC delegation

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo Mamata Banerjee has issued a fiery challenge to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the dramatic police obstruction of a TMC delegation at Agartala airport. Speaking to reporters upon her return to Kolkata from a North Bengal trip, a visibly enraged Banerjee lashed out at the BJP-led administration in Tripura, vehemently condemning the recent vandalism of the TMC's party office and the subsequent blockade of her party's delegates.

The Chief Minister directly addressed the authorities responsible for the obstruction, stating, "If such a situation arises, I will go [to Tripura] myself, and then let's see who has the guts to stop me." This direct, high-stakes political challenge comes immediately after a five-member TMC delegation was prevented from leaving the Agartala airport premises and visiting the site of the vandalized office earlier on Wednesday.

The escalating political confrontation began on Tuesday when the TMC's party office in the BJP-ruled state was allegedly ransacked by miscreants. This act of violence, which the TMC has explicitly blamed on the BJP, led to the immediate dispatch of the fact-finding delegation from Bengal to assess the situation and lend support to local party workers.

However, the delegation's mission was immediately curtailed upon landing. Citing "law and order concerns," the Tripura Police effectively confined the TMC leaders to the airport, leading the delegation to stage a strong protest sit-in on the spot. The blockade served to further fuel the TMC's narrative that the BJP is suppressing opposition voices in the state through forceful means.

Mamata Banerjee seized on these dual incidents of vandalism and police obstruction, using them as key evidence to attack the BJP's governance style and its claims of upholding democracy. Her defiant declaration serves as a rallying cry to her party workers in Tripura, assuring them of the top leadership's unwavering commitment despite facing perceived "state-sponsored" hurdles.
