Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday warned the BJP-led Central government and the Election Commission of India over the ongoing voter list revision, asserting that she would not allow the rights of people in the state to be taken away. Speaking at the annual Eid gathering on Red Road in Kolkata, the Chief Minister said her government would continue to stand with all communities in Bengal.
Banerjee attended the Eid programme on Red Road, as she does every year, where she was joined by Abhishek Banerjee and several leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress. Addressing the gathering, she said, “We will not let our rights be taken away. My fight for you will continue. I stand with all the people of Bengal.” Her remarks come amid controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. The final list has been published, but the names of several people have reportedly been removed while many applications remain pending. The Trinamool Congress has repeatedly alleged that the revision process is being influenced by the Centre.
Referring to the issue, Banerjee said her party had already approached the authorities in Delhi regarding the removal of names from the SIR list. “I am with people of all religions. We went to Delhi to inform the Commission about our case. We are not afraid. We will continue to fight,” she said, adding that the rain during the Eid gathering was a blessing encouraging people to overcome obstacles.
